To increase the relevance and the practicality of chapter competition, the following changes are being made to this year’s PRIDE Ritual Competition:

  • Adding the Vows Ceremony for chapter competition
  • Renaming the Chapter Proficiency to DeMolay Opening & Closing and providing Championship and Open competition levels
  • Suspending the Initiatory Degree, DeMolay Degree, and 4th Section competitions.

PRIDE will still include:

  • Flower Talk
  • Ceremony of Light
  • Magnificent 7
  • Individual Chaplain
  • Obligations
  • Sweetheart Crowning
  • Best Part Awards

Last year, only one chapter was able to compete in any of the chapter competitions beside the Chapter Proficiency.  So, to increase the ability of chapters to compete, the Vows Ceremony is being added.  Also, the “Open Division” will allow chapters to use members from another chapter to fill the team.  Members of the competing chapter will qualify for “Best Part” awards; members from other chapters will not be considered.  Penalties will not be assigned on any parts that are not from the competing chapter.  Chapters competing in the “Championship Division” will have all parts judged with penalties assigned according to performance and must use members from their chapter only.  These chapters will be considered for the “Best DeMolay Opening & Closing” as well as have parts qualifying for “Best Part” awards.   .

These changes are planned to be in place for this year followed by an evaluation of the changes effectiveness in allowing more chapters and individuals to participate and compete using this new competition format.
